In the overview exhibition Interlocking, Nevin Aladağ weaves her oeuvre to form a course of perception and participation. She presents patterns of the everyday, which she stylises, multiplies and combines, in the ornamental works. In this way they develop a new visual impact. Structured in a similar way are the rug works, which combine patterns and forms in a collage-like fashion, thus resulting in a haptic overall composition. In the video works, she abstractly captures the sound of the cities, and dancers leave traces on the copper plates with their stiletto heels that generate their own sound. You can participate yourself in the Teppichballspiel (Carpetball Game). The artist emancipates the exhibition space and the artworks by calling upon, you, the audience, to play and to perceive art with all your senses. The seemingly surrealistic musical instruments are not only collaged objects, but are instead regularly activated by musicians, so that another level of experience is also added here.
The interlocking is also made evident in the exhibition through various patterns, site-specific installations and the activation of different artworks. In media across genres, such as photography, sculpture, performance, installation and video, the artist breaks open classic attributions and overcomes practised hierarchies. At the level of content, she calls upon us to free ourselves from normative appearances and poses questions revolving around identity and transformation.
