Pattern Kinship, Flower  2023

Nevin Aladağ presents an assortment of geometric forms, exhibited along three sky bridges that interconnect buildings within the King Abdullah Financial District. Drawing inspiration from her earlier series, Pattern Kinship (2016-), Aladağ reimagines Venetian blinds, historically employed to ensure privacy and create feelings of intimacy. She collected the patterns over many years of her travels and created new combinations, demonstrating how objects from different cultures and geographical origins can be united to create a collective sense of vibrancy. Through the interplay of light and color, she illuminates and enhances that which is often concealed. This installation, Pattern Kinship (2023), evokes the image of a lantern-like object suspended in the city, offering a juxtaposition of architectural elements that, being from different places and times, might never have otherwise converged.
